You should press and hold on the haystack, then drag your tool across the hay to dig. As you remove hay, loose material slides down, and the lighter color of the fresh hay underneath helps you track where you have already searched.

When your wagon is full, you must sell the collected hay to earn coins. You can perform this action by tapping the Sell button or pressing the Space key, which converts your gathered hay into currency for purchasing upgrades.
